Called «apple wine» during Antiquity, cider arrived from Biscay (Spain) to Normandy and Brittany in the 5th and 6th centuries. Due to a difficult climate for the wine culture, these two regions became the cradle of French cider until today. With 500 cider producers and a production of 95 million liters per year, this market remains poorly represented on foreign markets (only 13% of the production is exported). But a new generation of producers is changing the traditional image of cider, developping towards a trendy product which is already present on mature markets such as USA, Germany, Japan, Belgium and UK.
